The elders said the monarch’s comments have vindicated their position that insecurity in the north was getting worse. The Sultan, during the Nigerian Inter-Religious Council (NIREC), had narrated how bandits “go around in the villages, households, and markets with their AK 47 rifles, they stop at the market, buy things, pay and collect change, with their weapons openly displayed.” The elders, in a statement by the National Coordinator of Coalition of Northern Elders for Peace and Development (CONEPD), Engr. Zana Goni and National Women Leader, Hajia Mario Bichi, pointed out the utterances of the monarch did not only reflect the true situation of things but had vindicated them. There is no gainsaying that if you are not with the national party, and you choose to be in opposition, of course, you will continue to fast until God answers your prayers. “But we that are in the ruling, of course, what it will take us to solve certain problems may be different from what it will take somebody who is not very close to the source of authority to solve his own p

The monarch lamented that bandits openly go about their activities in the North, despite the presence of security operatives. However, the former Minister in a series of tweets wrote: “The north is the worst place to be in this country because bandits go about in the villages with their AK47 and nobody talks to them. They stop at the markets and buy things and even collect change with their weapons – Sultan of Sokoto. “Deeply courageous of His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto to speak truth i

We'll revenge over death of our top scientist - Iran threatens Israel

Image
Iran said one of its most prominent nuclear scientists was assassinated Friday in an attack outside Tehran, blaming arch foe Israel and warning of “severe revenge”. The assassination threatens to escalate tensions between Iran and the US and its close ally Israel, with some warning of the risk of a major conflict in the Middle East. Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, 59, was “seriously wounded” when assailants targeted his car before being engaged in a gunfight with his bodyguards, the defence ministry said. It added that Fakhrizadeh, who headed the ministry’s reasearch and innovation organisation, was later “martyred” after medics failed to revive him. The United States slapped sanctions on Fakhrizadeh in 2008 for “activities and transactions that contributed to the development of Iran’s nuclear programme”, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu once described him as the father of Iran’s nuclear weapons programme. Fakhrizadeh was targeted while travelling near Absard city in Tehran province’s
