  • We must step up now or forgotten forever, South Always making noise everyday while, North keeps gaining Political powers in Nigeria - Reno Omokri

  • Nigeria made history following the recently conducted Nass leadership election.

Reno Omokri expresses concern over the current balance of power in the country. It's barely twenty four hours since Nigeria's National Assembly decided their new leaders as Saraki and Dogara bowed out of the position they occupied in the past four years of Buhari's administration. It must be said, that out of the two, Saraki's emergence as Senate President in 2015 was the most contentious. The 8th Senate went on to become what many would argue as the worst Senate due to the crisis that marred its effectiveness. But that is past tense!

Following the conduct of yesterday's election in both the Senate and House of Representatives where Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila emerged as President and speaker respectively, history was also made in the process as Nigerians where immediately reminded of the current power structure in the country which for years, has been the bone of contention between the north and southern part of country.

Nigeria has been widely regarded as a secular country due to its diversity and religious beliefs. The country is also very clearly divided across religious line not only by sentiments, but also by physical landmarks. The North is predominantly occupied by the Muslims, while the South is predominantly Christians.

This setting also reflects in the political structure of the country as can be clearly seen under the Buhari administration. As at today, almost all high profile government positions in the country is occupied by Northerners and of Muslim faiths. This precedence has been condemned by many especially those from the south who feel the north has done enough to convince the world that Nigeria belongs to the north.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo who help installed Buhari in 2015, but who is now the chieftain of the Third Force, has been very critical of the Buhari administration saying it is leading Nigeria to disaster.

Obasanjo aside, the most recent to drop his jibe against the inbalance of power in the country under Buhari's watch, is former President Goodluck Jonathan's aide Reno Omokri. Omokri took to tweeter to highlight just how bad the current balance of power is in the country and the fact that it is condoned.

The heads of the Executive, Legislature & Judiciary are from the North. As if that is not enough INSULT on the South, Nigeria’s 10 law enforcement/intelligence agencies, NPF, NSA, DSS, NIA, DMI, DIA, NPS, NCS, NIS & EFCC, are ALL headed by Northerners#FreeLeahSharibu#RenosDarts

The current religious suspense and security situation in the country is at a dangerous level. Buhari's defense of his actions is very lame and no one from the south is buying it. But the President is unconcerned and sees no need for retrace.

It definitely will be interesting to see where things go from here. One thing is clear though, at least based on current reality, that there's no shred of evidence to suggest Nigeria is a united nation as we were made to believe.
