Shi’ites members set US, Israel flags ablaze in Abuja

Image
Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), better known as Shiites, set ablaze the national flags of the US and Israel during a massive protest in Abuja on Friday. The protesters, who converged on Wuse market junction, described both countries as enemies and oppressors of the people of Palestine. Abdullahi Musa, secretary of the academic forum of the movement, said the flags were burnt to show anger against the countries over their “oppressive tendency” against Palestine. The flags were displayed to the crowd with the caricature of President Donald Trump before some members of the group sprayed fuel on them. The incident led to traffic logjam in the area. Also, three coffins wrapped with Palestinian flags were on display which signified the three children of Ibraheem El-Zakyzaky, leader of the group, who were killed by the security operatives during a protest in Zaria, Kaduna state, in 2015. The movement said the protest was organised to drive home the demand for Presid

If you you try give Fulani grazing land then we're finished - Prof. Ben Nwabueze Tells Ndigbo

Image
The name Shiekh dan Fodio, the Sanduana’s forbear, is worth recalling again. He was a Fulani immigrant in Gobir (now renamed Sokoto), who was accommodated and well-favoured by the King of Gobir. Dan Fodio mobilised an army of Fulani immigrants who, in 1804 – 1808, overran all the Hausa Kingdoms and some other neighbouring communities, dethroned their rulers, installing Fulani emirs in their places, and imposed the Moslem religion on them. Thus was Hausaland together with other conquered lands, islamised, and a caliphate established over Sokoto, with dan Fodio as its Sultan. That was the price the Hausas paid for their hospitality in granting access to grazing land to the Fulani immigrant settlers. With knowledge of the tragic experience of the Hausas in 1804 – 1808, we should not make the tragic mistake of letting history repeat itself in 2018. It should be mentioned that the Fulani immigrant settlers’ ravaging on-slaught failed to subdue the Bornu and Jukun ki

"We Never Attacked Any Priest At Nnew" — IPOB

Image
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has denied the reports that emerged from Nnewi, the industrial hub of Anambra State on Thursday that some of its members attacked a Catholic priest during the sit at home order held across South Eastern Nigeria. IPOB said that the story was a huge lie fabricated by those who felt ashamed and disgraced that the sit at home order was perfectly observed in Nnewi against their initial expectations. In a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB said that it remains the most peaceful movement as there had never been any evidence of them wielding any gun or any weapon to attack people not to talk of Christians. The Pro-Biafra group went on to thank the Nnewi business community and other cities for standing in solidarity with the group and showing respect to the fallen heroes and heroines of Biafra against every manipulations from the powers that be. “It is crystal clear to the general public

BIAFRA: See How IPOB Crippled Nigeria’s economy on May 30

Vehicular movements and commercial activities were shutdown in South-East and South-south in compliance with the sit-at-home declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB. IPOB declared Sit-at-home to commemorate Biafra fallen heroes. In Abia state, the business city (Aba) was completely shutdown, the stores were locked and the roads were deserted. The same happened in other parts of the state. Mr. Uchenna Okere, who spoke with VIEW REPORT, described it as a welcome development. “Honestly, I am very happy to see that our people performed very well in this year’s sit at home. This indicates that we all really want Biafra’s independence for which so many people have died fighting for.” Onitsha, Enugu, did not stay out in the Sit-at-home. The main bridge and the main market of Onitsha were deserted, while the streets and markets of Enugu were just like ghost town. Although some markets closed in Imo and Ebonyi, the states registered 75% compliance. Mrs.

Even if you're given the mandate to rescue Nigeria from Sinking, you can't because you're unfit to lead a mission - Soyinka blasts Obasanjo

Image
Soyinka, in his Interventions VIII series, titled: “Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes? (Who keeps Watch over the Watchmen?), Gani’s Unfinished Business,” said he had only one demand from Obasanjo, which was for him to keep away from movements struggling to restore this nation to the path of sanity and even moderate rectitude. According to PM News, Soyinka’s Intervention VIII was supposed to have been launched last Tuesday at the Freedom Park on Lagos Island, but he postponed the book launch as a result of the massive herdsmen killings in Jos and the Lagos tanker explosion. He lamented that numerous atrocities occurred during Obasanjo’s reign as president that should shut him out of the scene permanently, but noted that in the former president’s style of hypocrisy, he was trying to undertake a mission he was never qualified as even worst things happened under his nose as watchman that were ignored. Soyinka lamented that Obasanjo presided over the reign of terror th

I will say it and more louder, Nigeria’s membership of OIC is illegal, HURIWA declares

Image
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) yesterday said that it was illegal and unconstitutional for President Muhammadu Buhari to attend a summit exclusively convoked for Islamic nations under the aegis of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. It said that Nigeria’s presence in such a body offends sections 10 and 42 of the 1999 Constitution since Nigeria is a secular or at least a multi-religious nation. The pro-democracy and non-governmental organisation noted that the fact that the former military dictator, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, who suspended the then constitution and used military fiat to railroad the country into an organisation that is fundamentally set up to protect, promote and nurture only pro-Islamic religious issues, makes it imperative that the action of enrolling Nigeria remains a nullity. HURIWA, in a statement signed in Abuja by its National Co-ordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, added that it is co

Matter close as Appeal Court sacks Regina Daniels Alleged husband, Ned Nwoko as PDP senator-elect

Image
The Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja, Thursday nullified the election of Ned Nwoko as the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District. The court, in its ruling, said the case instituted at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, which culminated in the recognition of Nwoko as the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was wrongly filed. The appellate court said that the matter ought to have been brought at the lower court before the expiration of 14 days from the time of the incident that occasioned the suit. Besides, it ruled that the failure of the applicant at the lower court to file the case before the expiration of 14 days showed that the case had become statute barred and the lower court lacked jurisdiction to handle the case in the first place. In its words, “As at the time the matter was instituted at the Federal High Court, the case was statute barred. We set aside the decision of the Federal High Cou

Barely 24 hours after assumption of office, Imo State governor, Emeka Ihedioha has commenced the demolition of monuments built by the immediate past governor, Rochas Okorocha as his first action as governor. Ihedioha was sworn-in as the sixth Executive governor of the state on Wednesday. Israel Dissolves Parliament, Gives Reason

Image
Israel faces an unprecedented snap election campaign – the second this year – after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed to form a governing coalition and dissolved parliament instead. Israel’s newly elected Knesset dissolved itself early on Thursday. The Knesset voted 74-45 in favor of dissolving itself and setting a new election date for September 17. It’s a shocking setback from Netanyahu, who had appeared to secure a comfortable win in last month’s election. But he was unable to build a parliamentary majority to rule because a traditional ally, AvigdorLieberman, refused to bring his Yisrael Beiteinu faction into the coalition

Biafra: Ekweremadu Reveals Stand on Igbo Presidency 2023

The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has asked the Federal Government to stop wooing the People of South-East about 2023 presidency. All we need know is freedom. The FG needs to respect the rights of Ndigbo, so that the rule of law, equity and justice will prevail. Ekweremadu stated this on Saturday while speaking to journalists in Enugu. “Let me use the opportunity to advise the government to ensure that human rights are respected, that there is justice to all, fairness, and equal opportunity to everybody in Nigeria”, he said. Ekweremadu wants an environment whereby Nigerians especially the Igbos can strive. “All they want is an atmosphere for them to grow, they are not interested in Presidency or anything”.
