A Biafran, Okonjo-Iweala honoured As one of world's 8 powerful women




Transparency International has used the International Women’s Day on Friday, March 8, to honour eight different women who have used their intellect and voice to fight corruption around the world.

Among these eight powerful women is Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Nigeria’s former minister of finance and a renown economist who once worked with the World Bank and has a 25-year career.

Below are therefore the 8 celebrated women in no particular order:

1. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
She was not just the former minister finance who once solved the country’s debt crisis, she has decades of work experience in the finance field. She also has worked with both the World Bank and Transparency International

2. Ana Garridos Ramos
Ramos used her intellectual power to deal with corrupt practice in her former place of work. What started as a small investigation into the shady practice at her former workplace soon became something bigger that world affect a larger part Span’s democratic history.

3. Soledad Jarquin
Jarquin has used her years of career in investigative journalism to fight against inappropriate gender behaviours and corruption. For instance, she once showed how corruption affect mown in Mexico. She was also a recipient of Mexican National Journalism Prize in 2006.

4. Khadija Ismayilova
Ismayilova is also an investigative journalist and has been very courageous in her field despite many attempts of blackmail against her personality and several arrests. She never allowed jail to stop as she kept lending her voice against corruption even while in prison.

5. Robtel Neajai Pailey
Pailey is a Liberian academic, and activist and writer. She has been fighting against corruption by giving commitment to educating the youngest members of her society. She uses both her storytelling skill and passion for social justice to effect change.

6. Claudia Escobar
Growing up in Guatemala taught Escobar what it means to live in a nation in abject corruption where nobody cares who is corrupt or not. She became a popular crusader against corruption when she initiated a case that brought down many high-ranking politicians including the vice president of her country.

7. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Oscasio-Cortez uses her political life to fight corruption in her society. She went into political life against all odds and still became victorious. She was also got into the US Congress as the youngest member ever. She has been using her voice against corruption ever since.

8. Women at Transparency International
Transparency International also honoured all the women at the organization for how they all in their own way contributed to the fight against disorderliness in the world.
